The key finder uses a Temperley-style chroma key extractor that is highly accurate for most modern, tonal music. Atonal, heavily detuned or very short clips may produce ambiguous results — in those cases the strength score helps you judge confidence.
The same engine that finds the key can also estimate tempo (BPM), energy and danceability for free. They are shown as bonus context, but the key and scale are the primary output of the key finder.
The Camelot Wheel is a DJ notation that maps every key to a number 1–12 with an A (minor) or B (major) suffix. Tracks with the same number, or numbers that differ by 1, mix together harmonically. Our key finder converts every result into Camelot automatically.
